Zenodyne R (ゼノダイン・アール) is a shmup by JackDarx and Team Grybanser Fox in 2016 using GameMaker. The game is a remake of Zenodyne from 2014, and has changes compared to the original version.

Gameplay Overview

The player can move the ship with the directional buttons, fire the shot, use bombs and use focus mode for alternate firing.

Controls

• 1: Shot
• 2: Bomb
• 3: Focus mode

Scoring

The player destroys enemies to earn up points, while collecting medals. Medals have 3 size types, small, medium and big, each one having it`s score value. Small medals can also be obtained trough bullet cancelling. Midbosses and bosses will drop a specified amount of big medals depending on how quickly they`re killed. After beating a stage. Lives and medal bonuses will be awarded.

Tech Points (TP)

Tech Points are obtained by playing the game and clear stages acomplishing different stage requirements. When the player gets more Tech Points, more ships will be unlocked, more credits are added, and lore about the game`s story will get unveiled.

Modes

• Normal: The standard game mode. Bullets are slightly slow, and the game is locked at the Easy path in this mode.
• Arcade: A mode that has faster bullet speed. Contains Easy and Hard paths. Hard paths will make the game harder, and EX bosses will appear after defeating a stage`s regular boss.

This ship is equipped with a vulcan that when firing in focus mode, the firing rate increases, while also increasing ARV`s speed.

This ship has the strongest shot in the game in exchange of slow movement speed.

This ship has a rapid firing unfocused shot, while it`s focus shot fires widely.

• Fire Arrow X:

Guest ship from Fire Arrow. During unfocused mode, Type-B will fire forward shots. When on focus mode, Type-R fires wide shots.

Items

	Power-up item: Increases shot power. It also spawns when re-spawning with one life left.
	Bomb item: Grants an extra bomb. It also spawns when re-spawning with one life left.
	Small medal: Grants 1000 pts. each. They also appear when cancelling bullets.
	Medium medal: Grants 5000 pts. each.
	Big medal: Grants 20000 pts. each. They also appear from killed bosses and midbosses.

True Last Boss / TLB

In order to fight the TLB, the player must play on Arcade difficulty, 1cc and pick all Hard paths. Oddly, the TLB on Normal only appears in Stage Select mode.

Trivia

• The game`s BGM uses YM2612 styled soundfont, which is the one that the Mega Drive uses.
• Xiayun and the XOP ship originate from XOP, a 2002 indie shmup by Christopher Emirzian and Toastsoft.
• The FireArrow-X ship pretty much resembles the team system of Imperishable Night.
• The pose that the TLB does is similar to TLB-2 and TLB-3 from Zenohell.
