Overview

Scoring in Ibara can be broadly divided into five main categories. In approximate order of importance (in other words, order of how much they contribute to the final score), these categories are as follows:

  • Item Collection - The primary scoring mechanism in the game. At most levels of play, scoring from Item Collection will form the majority of Player scores.
  • Boss Milking - Several Bosses and Midbosses can be milked for points through different means. At the highest levels of play, these milks actually contribute the majority of the final score.
  • Enemy Destruction - Many enemies, Bosses and Midbosses of Ibara have multiple 'parts' that can be separately destroyed. As each component is worth points, it is optimal to completely destroy every part individually to optimize score.
  • Damage Optimization - Depending on what kind of damage is used to defeat enemies, they are worth different amounts of points. This can play a significant role in some areas, such as Stage 1.
  • Minor Optimizations - Additional mechanics that play a comparatively minor (though not entirely insignificant) role in scoring. These contribute so little points that they are likely not worth optimizing for except at the very highest levels of play, and even then, should be low-priority.

Boss Milking

Several Bosses and Midbosses can be milked for points through different means. At the highest levels of play, these milks actually contribute the majority of the final score. All boss milks in Ibara involve significant risk, and can easily end a run if the Player makes execution mistakes or suffers particularly bad RNG. Further, almost all milks will have a significant impact on Rank; without good Rank control strategies, even a well-executed Boss Milk could put the game in an incredibly difficult state.

Throughout this section, each milk features a summary table in this format:

Minimum Viable The minimum resources required upon beginning the fight to perform the milk.
Will likely result in drastically lower value and/or higher difficulty, but it is still theoretically doable.
Optimal The ideal amount of resources upon beginning the fight to perform the milk optimally.
Improves score potential, execution consistency, or both.

It is very important to note that the Resource Requirements are listed as the Player enters the boss fight. This is significant for routing purposes, because often the actual milk takes place in a later phase or only after destroying certain components of the Boss or Midboss.

*A value of "4 + 1" for Bomb Stock indicates 4 Full Bombs and one Armed Hadou.
