1942 is a vertically scrolling shoot em' up released by Capcom in 1984. It is the first game in the 194X series.

The game has recieved ports on several home computers/consoles.

Gameplay Overview

1942 is a 2-button shooter. There are 32 stages; a 10,000,000 point bonus is rewarded at the end of the game.

Extends are granted at 20,000 points then every 80,000 points. They can also appear in the form of a Pow icon.


  • A button (Press/Hold): Fires the player's main shot.
  • B button (Press): Activates the player's bomb.


Pow icons give a 1,000 point bonus on pickup.

Green Pow
Widens the player's shot range.
1942 white.png
White Pow
Wipes all enemies on-screen.
1942 gray.png
Gray Pow
Adds two side fighters/options to the ship. Can't be equipped during bosses.
1942 orange.png
Orange Pow
Stops enemy bullets from spawning for a brief moment.
1942 yellow.png
Yellow Pow
Adds a bomb.
1942 black.png
Black Pow
Grants an extend. Dropped sparingly.
1942 red.png
Red Pow
Flat 1,000 point bonus. Appears after every 200 enemies.
1942 yashichi.png
Grants a 5,000 point bonus. Dropped from certain enemies.


End of Stage Bonus

The total stage bonus is based on two factors: Enemy Percentage + Bomb Bonus.

TO DO: See if Stage Bonus scales with Enemy Percentage (ex: 10%, 30%, etc) ?

Bomb Bonus

Each bomb in stock is worth 1,000 points.

Tick Points

Every hit on a medium/large enemy is worth 100 points.
