The game offers 2 modes:
*Paradise Mode: A mode where collecting fruit fills a jar of juice, and if the jar is filled with the most of a specific type of fruit, the player will get a jar of that fruit and the related power-up. This is similar to Roaring Mode and Berserk Roaring Mode in WBaWC, but this game uses a more in-the-moment system. Apple juice doubles your items, Orange juice turns all onscreen bullets into power items, Banana juice gives you a wider graze area, Watermelon juice gives the player stronger fire, Melon juice increases your bomb gauge, Peach juice constantly fills up your life gauge, Grapes slow down some attacks, and Star Fruit increases every spectrum of the juice you make (although it's unknown if the star fruit has its own effect). You can have up to 3 filled jars, and use them (all at once) by pressing C.

Release date: 2017

Touhou Tenkarou ~ Frantically Forbidden Fruit (東方天華楼) is a Touhou Project fangame developed by Gore in 2017 using Danmakufu PH3. It is highly inspired in TD, DDC, LoLK, HSiF, WBaWC, etc.

For replay videos, visit the Video Index.

Gameplay overview

The gameplay combines elements from Double Dealing Character and Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, with a few significant differences. It also happens to feature elements similar to that of Wily Beast and Weakest Creature (though this game came first). Like LoLK, the game has two gameplay modes—Paradise and Legacy—and stages and boss fights are separated in chapters. Bullets can be grazed for some time and you'll get multiple points.

The special mechanic of the game is the inclusion of fruit, collected from some enemies, after ending chapters, or collecting a number of items in the Point of Collection (DDC-style).

Controls

Like the official games, uses the standard Touhou control scheme, along with a new button

  • Z: Shoot
  • X: Bomb
  • C: Juice trance
  • Shift: Focus

On keyboard, movement can be done using either the arrow keys or the number pad. The gamepad can also be configured using the config program of the game.

Game modes

The game offers 2 modes:

  • Paradise Mode: A mode where collecting fruit fills a jar of juice, and if the jar is filled with the most of a specific type of fruit, the player will get a Fruit Trance jar of that fruit and the related power-up. This is similar to Roaring Mode and Berserk Roaring Mode in WBaWC, but this game uses a more in-the-moment system. Up to 3 Fruit Trance bottles can be filled up. It also has an HP system that allows some damage hits before death to certain attacks.
  • Legacy Mode: Removes the fruit and lifebar mechanics, making the system similar to DDC. Getting hit results in an instant death.

Difficulties

The game has 4 difficulty modes. The higher difficulties are, of course, harder, and also have higher scoring potential. The difficulty modes are:

  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Lunatic

The game also has an Extra stage, as well a Phantasm-like stage called Harvest, in which both are treated as their own difficulty. To unlock Extra, the player has to 1cc the main game on any difficulty. To unlock Harvest, Extra must be completed.

Scoring

Scoring is highly based on the value of point items, as well bonuses from collecting as much items with the PoC, grazing, clearing stages, etc.

Playable Characters

The game has 7 playable characters, each with different shot behavior and a different bombs (that also cost Spell Points/SPs).
