Aero Fighters 2 (JP: ソニックウイングス2, Sonic Wings 2) is a Neo-Geo MVS / Neo-Geo CD game developed by Video System and published by SNK in 1994 (JP). It is notable for having a silly atmosphere in contrast to its archetypical military theming, for having a relatively large selection of 8 different playable characters and ships, and for having a very large number of ending sequences (40+). Like other games in the Aero Fighters series, it contains random elements such as certain randomly chosen bosses and random stage orderings.

Story

Once a wicked organization schemed to destroy the world but it was wiped out by 8 pilots. 2 years later, a mighty, unknown army suddenly appeared and soon occupied the world. The United Nations Peace Keeping Force rushed in to intercept them but missed in the enemy. Their last reports say that the super weapons which had attacked the world 2 years ago still exist. But does the organization behind them still exist?

The U.N. has requested the International Secret Rescue team to take action. The commander was ordered all members to destroy them completely. Now, the time to sortie is upon us!

Version Differences

Original JP version

  • Has more varied character expressions between stages. For instance, Mao-Mao's face only has one expression in overseas versions. These may have been removed for porting / data space reasons.
  • There is a special congratulations message / character animation when completing stage 20.

Trivia

  • Tenuki Chaud (one of the final bosses) is a play on the expression 手抜きちゃう (Tenukichau, "My hand slipped!"), something that might typically be said when accidentally taking a hit in an arcade game
  • Entering the highscore initials 'SEX' plays a special sound effect
