Suggestion for a definition, based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbKi60sKwiY (as pointed out by User:Plasmo)
- auto-scrolling game plane – i.e. the game is in charge of when things move, you are confined only in the - plays in 2D (can be rendered in 3D though) - you control your character in 2D (e.g. not 1D like Space Invaders, nor 3D like StarFox) and can reach all (or at least most) of the screen
